How it works

Find your bus in three steps.

Step 1

Choose a town or city

Pick from the list, search, or tap Near me to use your location.

Step 2

Pick your bus number

Every route with a bus on the road right now, and how many are running.

Step 3

Watch it move

Positions refresh every 20 seconds. Tap a bus to see where it is heading.

At the stop

Put live departures where passengers wait.

The same open data powers real-time displays at bus stops, shelters and interchanges, including low-power e-paper screens that run on solar or battery power.

FAQ

Live bus tracker questions

Where does the live bus data come from?

From the Bus Open Data Service, run by the Department for Transport. Bus operators in England publish where their buses are, and this page shows those positions on a map.

How often do the bus positions update?

Buses report their location every few seconds. This page fetches the latest positions every 20 seconds while you have it open.

Why can't I see my bus?

Some buses do not report their location, and a bus only appears once it has started its journey. Positions can also be a minute or two behind, depending on the operator.

Does it cover Scotland and Wales?

Not yet. The Bus Open Data Service covers bus services in England.

Can passengers see this at the bus stop?

Yes. The same live data can drive e-paper and digital displays at stops and interchanges. We supply, install and maintain them.
